Greetings Tiger Students and Families!
Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts 2009-2010! I am thrilled with the opportunity to work with you over the course of the upcoming year. This will be a very busy and exciting year for your student as they tackle junior high school.
7th Grade Language Arts is a Literature based course, however it will encompass all forms of communication including daily grammar practice, research building skills, speaking and listening opportunities, and
vocabulary enrichment activities. We will study the wide variety of literary genres (including poetry, drama, and novels). During the course of the year our class will also complete several writing workshops in preparation for Clay Writes and FCAT. We have new textbooks this year and students will be able to access their text online at classzone.com to complete homework assignments or keep up with classwork if they are absent.
During the first week of school, students will be provided with my expectations, procedures, rules, and other important school information. My grading policy is as follows:
Assessments = 40 (Quizzes, Notebooks, and Tests)
Projects = 20% (Quarterly Book Projects)
Class work = 20%
rticipation = 10% (Bell activities, etc.)
Homework = 10%
Internet access is recommended for all students in Language Arts. Our class will be interactive and it is imperative that students have access to our website for various assignments and projects. Internet is available before school starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Media Center. Students must have their Internet Usage page signed in their planners in order to access the network!
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email at kmguzman@mail.clay.k12.fl.us
(Due to county confidentiality policies no student information will be released over the Internet without your permission on file with office notification), or by telephone (904) 291-5582 between the hours of 8 and 9 a.m..
Once again, welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts. Let’s work together to make this best year ever! Go Tigers!
Best Regards,
Mrs. Guzman
